"A.K. Gopalan is a historical figure in the Indian Communist movement. There are a large number of Communist leaders who have made memorable contributions to the development of the Communist Party in India; most of them made immense sacrifices in the anti-imperialist struggle and the independence movement. But it is given only to a few to be remembered as a leader and builder of the Communist party by having the unique capacity to be with the people and move them to take up the cause of the Party.A.K. Gopalan was one of them",writes Prakash Karat.
Balanandan was known to all of us affectionately as Swami. I worked with him for twenty years since 1985 when I joined the Party Centre. In these two decades, Swami was not just a comrade but a friend. He had a quality of enduring himself to all those who came in contact with him. His joviality and good humour made him a lovable person. He faced his last years of illness stoically and with fortitude. While departing this world, he would have had the fulfillment that he had made an immense contribution to the Communist Party and the working class for whom he devoted everything, writes Prakash Karat.
