On a losing ticket

Sitaram Yechury is not surprised at the links between the Sangh Parivar and fascist terror. Attached alongwith his article in The Hindustan Times is a piece from the Economic and Political Weekly by Marzia Casolari published in 2000, which presents  archival evidence of the fascist inspiration for the Sangh Parivar in India. Courtesies due to original publishers.

Marxism and National Defense

Marxists were for the defense of the national state in the bourgeois revolutionary epoch because it furthered the proletarian cause. Marxists can be for national defense today, upon a basis that furthers the interests of the proletariat against those of the bourgeoisie. In this lies the key to our agitation in the daily political struggle – our agitation to expose the “national defense” of the bourgeoisie and reveal its fraudulent character.

Remembering Kristallnacht (Night of Broken Glass), Germany, 9 November 1938

Jews being arrested during Kristallnacht, 9 November 1938

09 November 2008 is the 70th anniversary of the infamous Kristallnacht. In one night of terror, the Nazi State of Germany ordered the deliberate and systematic destruction of Jewish properties, Synagogues and homes, the arrest of thousands of Jews and the removal of Jews from jobs and businesses.

Pragoti brings to its readers a collection of articles to remember that terrible night.

Malegaon Blasts Investigation and Startling(?!) facts

Such is the influence of the ‘ communal –fascist rhetoric’ on the political conscious and unconscious in India that the possibility of the involvement of Hindutva-Fascist forces in Malegaon Blast wasn’t even discussed widely. Nevertheless, the emerging leads through the investigations of the Malegaon blasts case give another opportunity to the Left to forcefully combat the ‘Hindutva-Fascist forces’ in this 'war of position'.

The Tatas’ retrograde decision to shift the Nano to Gujarat must not be allowed to be used to obliterate the blemish of the state-sponsored carnage of Muslims.

Kandhamal: The March Of Hindutva In Tribal Orissa

The making and articulation of the Hindu tribal identity has overtaken all other contradictions in Kandhamal. The ruling BJD-BJP combine calls this communal divide as an “ethnic conflict with religious overtones”. This is clearly not true because the communalisation of the tribal consciousness has been a planned project since the early 1970s which in turn has structured the ethnic conflict.

Fascist Visages Staging a Comeback

It does not take much time or energy for the theoreticians of right wing extremism in India to propound theories to legitimize their acts of butchery and ruthlessness in the arena of the Indian politics. It also does not take much effort either for them to transform the "laboratories of Hindutva" into "Hindu Rajya"; at least the chronicle of Gujarat for the past one and half decade and the recent history of Orissa suggests so.

Graham Staines and his family

COMMUNAL violence is not new in Orissa, or for that matter in any part of the country. But the latest incident is different, just as what happened in Gujarat in 2002. It is by far the most violent, brutal and widespread incidence of communal attack in the history of Orissa.

Julius Fuchik Remembered

fucik5.jpg

ON September 8, journalists in various parts of the world remember Julius Fuchik, the fighter against fascism, the teacher and the journalist crusader who was murdered by the fascists on that day in 1943. He left behind a global legacy --- the famous Report from the Gallows, translated since his death into a big number of languages. Not only this, there are to this day schools of journalism, roads, streets and factories named after him as a man who fought against fascism but also gave journalism an ideological content.
